Chapter-1: Biotechnology principle and processes

Introduction:

​The use of biology to develop technologies and products for the welfare of human beings is known as biotechnology. It has various applications in different fields such as therapeutics, d iagnostics, processed food, waste management, energy production, genetically modified crops etc. The European Federation of Biotechnology defines Biotechnology as “The integration of natural science and organisms, cells, parts thereof, and molecular analogues for products and services.

Chapter Analysis:

​This chapter happened to be one of the most visited ones by the paper setters in the early years. In 2012 and 2010, 5 questions were asked making it a force to reckon with. However, the fondness of the paper setters with this particular topic has fallen down quite a bit as the last two years just saw 2 questions each being asked. Also, in 2015, the count fell to zero. Hence, we cannot be expecting more than 2 questions from this chapter in the following years.

Chapter-2: Biotechnology and its applications

Introduction:

The use of Biology to develop techniques and products for the welfare of human beings is known as biotechnology. It has various applications in different fields such as therapeutics, diagnostics, waste management, processed food, energy production, genetically modified crops, etc.

Chapter Analysis:

With a total of 21 question been asked in the past 11 years, this chapter falls in the category of medium weightage chapter. For three consecutive years, i.e. 2009 to 2011, 3 questions were asked each year. However, the count has fallen down recently with the last two paper consisting of just 3 chapter combined from this chapter. In five paper out of the 11 under analysis, only 1 question was asked and that is the same we should be expecting in the coming years.
